Wine and Cheese Please

Typically associated with French cuisine, our love for fromageries and wine bars is becoming more evident as they seem to be appearing in almost every suburb across Sydney. We’ve covered everyone’s favourites, from provolone, cheddar and camembert to shiraz, chardonnay and moscato in our list of Sydney’s eight finest wine and cheese bars.

GPO Cheese and Wine Room - 1 Martin Place, Sydney

The self declared ‘Sydney’s Temple of Cheese’ - GPO Cheese and Wine Room carries over 100 seasonal cheeses and 250 international and Australian wines to choose from. Our pick would have to be the truffle cheese fondue, which is a silky and buttery combination of two delicious French cheeses.

The Lodge Wine Bar3/415 Darling Street, Balmain

The Lodge in Balmain has a six-course degustation wine menu that starts and ends with cheese. Need we say more?

Hemingway’s48 North Steyne, Manly

When walking into Hemingway’s it’s easy to think you’ve walked into a small bookshop or library. The walls are lined with books and there are large leather couches you can disappear onto hidden upstairs. You’ll be able to sink your teeth into large chunk of oozing Brie as you listen to the sound of crashing waves. Heaven!

The Local Bar6 Young Lane, Neutral Bay

With a name that slips off the tongue it’s easy to walk past this literal hole in the wall bar in Neutral Bay. An amazing array of local and imported hand selected cheeses and a wine list that never ends. The Local Bar is a great place for a relaxing afternoon drink.

The Theatre Bar at the End of the WharfPier 4, Hickson Road, Walsh Bay

Sitting beside the Sydney Theatre Company in Walsh Bay, our favourite thing about this place is that their menu is inspired by the productions and that they change quite regularly. A cheese board is always their main focus and this season it’s showing quince paste, grapes and lavosh alongside an amazing array of cheeses.

Cafe Nice2 Phillip Street, Circular Quay

One of the amazing cafe’s by powerhouse team Fratelli Fresh, their wine is a dedication to French and Italian sommeliers with a collection of champagne, vin rouge and vin blanc. Don’t get us started on their cheese menu. It’s to die for.

The Commons32 Burton Street, Darlinghurst

On Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings The Commons in Darlinghurst puts on a good ol’ show of blues and jazz that you can relax to while perusing their menu of seasonal, local produce and boutique wines.

Bambini Wine Room185 Elizabeth Street, Sydney

Located just outside the heart of the CBD, Bambini Wine Room provides you with the perfect location to wind down after work.
