You might have noticed that everyone's gone a bit crazy over truffles of late. Well, that’s because of two very good reasons.
1. The Truffle Festival: Canberra and Capital region continues to go from strength to strength, engaging some of the best local restaurants and retailers in promoting our exceptional truffle industry.
2. Truffles are really, really delicious!
There is one small problem, though: truffles intimidate a lot of people. It’s easy to understand why – the little black, pungent balls of fungus may not initially appear appetising, but the secret to truffles is not what they represent on their own, but what they can do to another dish.
For those of you lucky enough to have fallen in love with truffles, there would have been a moment of clarity; a time where the shavings or oil of truffle brought a new dimension to a dish and forever converted you to an appreciation of this simple delicacy.
This is what we want you to tell us. What was the moment where the winter fog lifted and revealed a world of flavour? That the true value of truffles is not in their cost, but in their ability to change the way we think about many of the foods we already enjoy.
So, simply go to the Truffle Festival Facebook Pageand tell us about the moment when you fell in love with truffles. Upload a photo or image to accompany your entry and you can go in the draw to win the Ultimate Truffle Getaway on the weekend of 8 and 9 August. The fabulous prize includes:
• Two nights weekend accommodation for two at Novotel Canberra in a Standard Queen Room, including buffet breakfast.
• Weekend car hire courtesy of Europcar
• Mt Majura Truffle Experience for two adults, incorporating a truffle hunt for two people at French Black Truffles of Canberra, and a wine tasting with truffled brie at Mount Majura Vineyard, and
• Lunch for two at Pod Food.

• The prize is for the weekend of 8 and 9 August 2014. Requests to amend the date will be considered, although availability cannot be guaranteed
• Weekend car hire will be provided via a voucher from Europcar
• Accommodation includes 2-night stay at the Novotel Canberra in a Standard Queen Room and a buffet breakfast for 2 adults
• The Mount Majura Experience package for 2 adults includes a truffle hunt at French Black Truffles of Canberra then travel next door to Mount Majura Vineyard to enjoy a local truffle infused brie matched with some outstanding wines. Then travel down Majura Road and head to Pod Food in Pialligo to finish the experience with a three-course lunch including a glass of Mount Majura Vineyard wine. The entrée, main and dessert will feature Sherry’s famed French black truffles.
